PCOS and Acupuncture Miami

Acupuncture Miami is an ancient form of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) that is thousands of years old.  It is a treatment where reed thin sterile disposable needles are inserted into certain points throughout the body.  Acupuncture believes in the existence of a vital life energy called Qi or chi.  This chi travels around the body nourishing it through energy pathways called meridians.  There 14 meridians, in the body and when a meridian develops blockage, chi flow becomes hindered and stagnates in the part of the body where the blockage has arisen.  Chi stagnation leads to an imbalance in the body manifesting in the form of physical, mental or emotional symptoms.  Acupuncture removes the blockage and allows chi to properly flow freely again, which restores the energy balance of the body.  At the onset of the treatment, a person may experience sensations when the needles are inserted.  Different people react differently to the needle insertion.  Some may experience a slight ache, some a slight pinching sensation and some may feel a very slight electrical sensation – some patients may not feel anything at all.  Women suffering from polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) often experience irregular menstrual periods.  Some women with this disorder may experience regular periods each month but are not ovulating or have a brief luteal phase.  These factors are all hindrances to conception.

Acupuncture is an effective way to aid the woman into having a regular menstrual cycle and normal ovulation – a prerequisite for successful pregnancy.  Various studies throughout the year have shown how acupuncture enhances blood flow to the ovaries, upgrades the quality of the ovaries and minimizes the ovarian cysts.  Acupuncture is a wonderful treatment because it is versatile and can adapt to each needs of the patient.  Each treatment is different since symptoms may vary per patient.  The length of the treatment depends on each of the individual’s issues.  Some patients regularly see an acupuncturist (once or twice a month) for 6 months or two years.  Some patients who opted for assisted reproductive procedures such as In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) have discovered that acupuncture greatly enhances their chance for IVF success.  This results in fewer invasive procedures such as extraction of the ovary of the female, which involves a rather stressful procedure.  Some pregnant patients see an acupuncturist for strengthening of their uterus to prevent any accidents, miscarriages or complications from occurring and to keep the expectant mother in good health.  Acupuncture can be combined with herbal medicines to for a healthy pregnancy and a healthy mother and child.  The acupuncturist also advises the expectant mother on how to live a healthy and less stressful lifestyle and proper dietary habits that allow for the best nutrition for both unborn child and mother.
