Acupuncture Orlando Effective Treatment for Low Back Pain

More than 86 million Americans suffer from back pain in one form or another and it affects their lives one way or another.  Chronic low back pain is the more common form of back pain prevalent in the United States today and most people resort to some form of medication to alleviate their pain.  It is a major issue affecting the United States because of person-hours lost due to the incapacitation of the worker and the health costs dealing with this problem.

Acupuncture Orlando acts as an analgesic for back pain sufferers.  It has been proven through many controlled studies that acupuncture provides a long-term cure for back pain sufferers and that eventually low-back problem is resolved.  Unlike pain medications, which merely alleviate the pain, acupuncture aims to treat the ailment on a permanent basis.

How does acupuncture work for low back pain?

The Chinese believe that there is a life force running throughout the body called chi.  Chi is the energy that makes the body healthy and grow.  Without chi, the body dies.  When chi stagnates because of a blockage in the meridians, the body experiences disease, aliment or sickness. Meridians like the veins in the circulatory system transport chi throughout the body.  Blockages arise due to environmental, emotional and physical causes.  In the case of chronic low-back pain, the cause may be emotional, psychological, or physical as in physical straining of the back due to carrying heavy loads.

In chronic low back pain, chi is stuck in the area of the tailbone or coccyx.  Acupuncture has a dual purpose:  First, it removes the blockage and enables the free flow of chi and second, it releases endorphins, chemicals in the body that allows the body to feel relaxed and good, to combat the low back pain.  Acupuncture is inserted in the coccyx area, in the upper and lower joints and in the back lower legs.  These are points connected to the central nervous system and to some major organs like the kidneys and liver.

Studies have confirmed the efficacy of acupuncture in treating low back pain that even organizations skeptical of acupuncture therapy cannot ignore its success in low back pain treatment.  Many of the participants in controlled experiments were on sick leave due to back problems.  Even before the sessions were over, the people subjected to acupuncture had markedly improved conditions and  most of them went back to work on a part time or full time basis.  People subjected to placebo had no change in their health status and some even took a turn for the worse.

Treatment usually lasts from four months to up to a year depending on the severity of the pain and the extent of the ailment.  Testimonies abound from those who have recovered due to acupuncture of how well this treatment really is for low back pain.
