Where Does Chi Come From?

There is not much known as to the origin of chi.  Chi does exist but even the ancient Chinese sages do not have a clue how it came into being.  Chi exists in all animate beings and this is the force responsible for the growth, energy, propagation of species and intelligence of organisms.  Chi maybe likened to prana, which in Hindu tradition is the life force flowing inside each living organism.

Prana has three primary sources:  The sun, air and the earth, which, basically, is similar to where the sources of chi are found, according to ancient Chinese tradition.  Chi might be considered as the nutrients found in plants.  We can say then that nourishment of the plants comes from the organic soil, the sun and water.  The elements that enable the plant to grow and propagate are its chi.

In essence, elements from the earth, the sun and air that enable the plants to grow are the chi that sustains plant life and the nutrients animals get from the sun, their sources of food and the air are basically, the chi for those animals.

If the sun, the air and the earth hold elements that animals and plants need for chi, where did those elements come from in the first place?  Sadly, even the ancient Chinese sages and Indian mystics acknowledge the great cloak of mystery of the universe.  The forces of gravity and electromagnetism are two of the most notable forces that govern heavenly bodies.

The interaction of these two forces create visible, energy and matter and intangible other creations still unknown to the human mind.  It will remain unknown for a long time since these creations are all beyond the grasp of the human senses and empirical science.

It is the great leap which ancient sages from around the world have made, caused by the power of intuition (and perhaps a little help from other worldly beings), that have given humankind the knowledge of chi and how to maintain and harness it.

The ancients believed in gods and goddesses.  Perhaps these entities have bestowed knowledge of this life force that pervades the universe to our ancestors.  Perhaps they have aided our ancient sages in selecting herbs and plants that when mixed or by itself, bestow healing and medicinal benefits to humankind – herbs and plants that they may have planted themselves here on earth.

Some of these plants may even be here on earth to serve as channels to assist us continue communicating with these beings on a psychical level.  Plants like the ayahuasca plant and peyote have enabled shamans to communicate with their “gods and goddesses.”

We may never know where chi really originated but the question really has not been pursued for the reason that however or wherever it originated, we can thank our lucky stars (or maybe our benevolent entities) that its knowledge gave us therapies that have been of valuable help for all humankind.

Helping Women Cope with Menopause with Acupuncture New York

Menopause is the permanent stoppage of a woman’s menstrual function.  This phase of a woman’s life progresses slowly as the female ovaries slowly but surely loses its function to produce estrogen.  The waning amounts of estrogen in the body lessen fertility which likewise reduces the chances of conception until eventually the body loses its reproduction function totally.  Menopause is a woman’s natural phase of her life but it can also be caused by surgical procedures like a hysterectomy where the ovaries of the female are taken out of the uterus.  A woman typically enters menopause during the age of 50.

Women have different experiences with their menopause.  Some have no hard time at all handling the effects of menopause while there are females who suffer from an assortment of menopausal symptoms.  These symptoms can include irritability, insomnia, night sweats, painful hot flashes, mood swings, memory loss, depression, fatigue, lowered libido, joint discomfort, osteoporosis, urinary incontinence and urgency and vaginal dryness.  There are some very effective treatments to deal with the symptoms of menopause.  One of these is traditional Chinese medicine, specifically, acupuncture.  Acupuncture has been treating the symptomatic manifestations of menopause for many millennia.  It obviously works because if it didn’t, this treatment wouldn’t be talked about at all.

How does acupuncture work?  Women with menopausal symptoms who have tried acupuncture report at least fewer episodes of night sweats, mood swings and tingling.  Since it is a natural form of treatment, it may take a number of sessions to achieve the best outcomes.  Acupuncture works by balancing the energy levels in the body.  When a body is energy imbalanced sickness and pain is felt.  The principle of acupuncture basically is the belief in chi or vital energy flowing in the body.

All people experience an imbalance of energy at least at one point in their lives.  When energy imbalances in the organs and tissues exist, there will be corresponding illnesses that will arise.  Some causes of energy imbalance include overwork, emotional stress and lack of exercise.  What acupuncture does is to remove the blockages that have developed in the chi pathways called meridians. It also balances the chi components of yin and yang which function like the positive and negative forces in electricity.

When the female reaches her perimenopause stage, she starts losing amounts of yin energy.  What acupuncture does is to add yin energy in the body to help compensate for the lost yin enabling to establish a relative balance of yin and yang in the body.  Combined with acupuncture, the acupuncturist will team up with a herbologist or if he is a herbologist himself to give certain herbal formulas to the female that will replenish her deficient yin energy.

PTSD and Acupuncture Palm Harbor

PTSD or Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is often associated with problems experienced by soldiers in the military.  This disorder actually not only affects troops but potentially everyone else as well.  PTSD can be acquired when a person directly experiences scenes or situations involving a disaster, aggression or violence.  A situation filled with emotional, mental or physical trauma can trigger PTSD in a person.  With traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and acupuncture people suffering from this condition can be assisted by lowering their levels of anxiety and enabling them to cope with life in a much better way.

PTSD causes the person to reenact in his mind those traumatic events that overwhelm his nervous system.  People with PTSD react by becoming more angry which puts them in a state of hyper vigilance. The effects can manifest in depression, paranoia and problems falling asleep.  PTSD is only recognized in a person when he has been experiencing these symptoms for more than a month; it is also needs to affect his daily life like his social life and work.

As mentioned above, PTSD can stem from a number of factors.  However, the common denominator is that the person imagines himself to be under constant life threatening danger making him unable to live a happy and/or productive life.  Some of the traumatic experiences that can cause PTSD can include emotional/mental trauma, natural disaster, terrorism, sexual attacks and physical assault.  There are also cases where the origin of PTSD may be genetic in nature.  A person who has been exposed to traumas early on in life is a likely candidate for PTSD.

Those suffering from PTSD have adrenalin constantly pumped into their blood.  TCM views the adrenal glands as tied to the kidneys.  The kidney function can be imbalanced by fear. TCM often diagnoses PTSD as a deficiency in kidney energy and Shen disturbance as well as spleen or heart energy deficiency.   Chinese herbal medicine and acupuncture can be very vital instruments in treating PTSD and its symptoms.  Some meridians located in the ear help to regulate brain functions and this can aid in reducing the overactive nervous function and reducing stress. Auricular acupuncture or ear acupuncture can be an effective type of acupuncture in addressing PTSD.  Besides acupuncture, counseling and relaxation therapies should be performed by the patient to maximize the results of the treatment.

TCM and acupuncture have for several millennia been helping to treat countless numbers of people throughout time of a wide range of illnesses and ailments.  Fortunately, the US military has seen the beneficial effects of acupuncture especially in treating pain and emotional problems.  More research is being performed to see how acupuncture can be applied in different kinds of situations.  The future looks good in having acupuncture be a very important component in the treatment of US troops.

Treating Back Pain with Acupuncture Louisville

A person suffering from back pain would probably have tried other mainstream treatments before considering acupuncture to help treat their back problem.  This is sad because acupuncture has been used for thousands of years in China and South Asia to treat body pain including back pain and having an impressive track record in doing so.  People who want a more natural and safer way to treat back pain should consider getting acupuncture.

Since acupuncture is not part of Western conventional medicine treatment, your doctor will no prescribe this treatment for you suggesting instead painkillers or surgery for your condition.  However, there are now physicians who have discovered the effectiveness of acupuncture treatment and are even practicing medical acupuncturists themselves.  These professionals will likely perform acupuncture on you when all else have failed.

If you are interested in getting acupuncture, you probably would want to know how acupuncture works.  Acupuncture is part of traditional Chinese medicine or TCM which believes that the body has twenty or so energy pathways called meridians. These meridians are where life giving energy called chi travels.  The normal unobstructed flow of chi throughout the body is what gives us good health.  The body has over 2,000 acupuncture points spread all over it that connect to the meridians.  These points are where ultra fine non hollow acupuncture needles are introduced to connect to the meridians that have developed blockages.  The needles will either remove the energy blockages or help slow down the flow of chi to treat a specific disorder.

Western medical science is still unable to prove the existence of chi and the meridians and it can’t verify the claim of acupuncture in treating body pains although acupuncture has consistently been shown to remove pain.  Even in some type of surgeries acupuncture is used to numb the pain and allow the patient to remain conscious during the entire surgical procedure.  When the needle is inserted the patient may feel a slight tingling sensation which oftentimes is fleeting or may be felt during the entire procedure.  The procedure itself usually lasts for only 15 to 30 minutes.  People react differently from an acupuncture treatment.  Some may feel very sleepy during and after the procedure while some feel revitalized and full of energy after the treatment.

Sometimes the acupuncturist may utilize up to 20 needles while some may use three.  The depth a needle goes in the body depends on the diagnosis.  Sometimes the acupuncturist may tweak or manipulate the needles to quickly stimulate the nervous system of the body.  The treatment is literally painless even when the needles are introduced into the body.  Unlike the hollow hospital needles used for injections, the ones used for acupuncture has a tip with a smooth point and no sharp edges.  They are likewise thinner than hospital needles.

Addressing Infertility with Acupuncture Miami

Chinese herbal medicine and acupuncture are components of Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM).  Both treatments can effectively treat conditions like male impotency, gynecological problems and infertility among others which both male and female face for over 5 millennia.  Compare this to Western medicine which is a measly a little over 200 years old. Traditional Chinese medicine protocols are diametrically different from those used in Western medicine.  Verified results show that acupuncture greatly enhances the success of pregnancy and conception especially when it is combined with IVF or IUI.  Some studies show up to a 60% rate of success when acupuncture is used with IVF or IUI.  The problem of unexplained infertility is also addressed by acupuncture and many couples have been blessed with parenthood because of this wonderful TCM procedure.

Acupuncture essentially balances the organ and blood systems of the body.  When a male’s body is in proper balance, he has good reproductive function.  He will have ample sperm morphology, motility and count.  A woman having proper energy balance in the body will be healthy enough to prevent any miscarriage, have string uterine lining, good eggs and healthy follicles.  Because of poor nutrition, overuse of medications, poor nutrition, overwork and chronic stress, alcohol, smoking, chemical and toxin exposure, the body suffers in more ways than one.  These factors cause energy imbalance and poor blood flow in the body causing the body to fall into illness and dysfunction.  Acupuncture restores good blood flow and brings back energy balance to make our body function much better and help relieve duress and stress in the body. The endocrine system and the whole body are in great working condition and you will be able to conceive healthily and easily.

Acupuncture and TCM makes your body work optimally and more efficiently. It can:

• Aid and improve the body’s immune system.

• Reduce worry, fatigue, insomnia, anxiety and stress.

• Create a wholesome feeling and calmness.

• Reduce the harmful effects of medications and drugs.

• Regulate menstrual cycle.

• Regulate and balance hormones responsible for reproduction.

• improve the flow of blood to the ovaries and uterus.

• Enhance the function of the ovaries that includes healthy eggs and follicle production.

•Lessen the contractions of the uterus after IVF procedure.

• Lessen incidence of miscarriage and frequent pregnancy loss.

• Help thicken the uterine wall.

• Enhance sperm morphology, motility and count.

Far from being a painful procedure, acupuncture is a very relaxing and gentle protocol.  Acupuncture needles are super thin and non-hollow and all you feel when the needle is inserted is a tiny pinch or often nothing at all.  It is very safe with no side or very little side effects.  Acupuncturists can even treat children.  Women who are pregnant can avail of acupuncture to treat the effect of pregnancy like back pain, edema, headaches, fatigue and morning sickness.

Relieving Arthritic Pain with Acupuncture Davis

The aging process has brought about nasty health conditions for tens of millions of people around the world.  One of these nasty conditions is arthritis.  The Centers for Disease Control has listed arthritis as the number one form of disability in the US today.  The good news is that acupuncture has been found to improve the conditions of arthritis patients and helps to greatly relieve the pains caused by arthritis allowing these people to live a much happier life.  Arthritis has basically two forms: rheumatoid and osteo arthritis.  The two have different etiologies but have the same joint pain condition.

Rheumatoid arthritis affects the joints as well as certain other parts of the body.  They include the lungs, blood and heart.  This type of arthritis can misshape the affected joint and this affects the normal motion of the body.

Osteoarthritis on the other hand is the type of arthritis most people in the US experience.  This condition causes joint degeneration eventually breaking down the affected joint cartilage resulting in pain and stiffness.  Sadly no joint in the body is safe from this condition particularly if the person has a history of stress.

Acupuncturists deem arthritis as an obstruction of chi.  Chi in traditional Chinese medicine is the life energy in the body.  The process of acupuncture treatment entails the acupuncturist evaluating his patient to ascertain the location of the chi obstruction.  The areas of chi obstruction are where the treatment is targeted.  The aim of the treatment is to enable the chi to flow normally once again throughout the body.

If one does not know what an acupuncture treatment entails, he may find it weird to see certain acupuncture needles inserted in places where no arthritic pain exists.  The energy pathways called meridians is where chi energy travels all over the body like the veins, arteries and capillaries to blood.  The blockage or obstruction is like the branches, trees and rockslide clogging up a river causing the flow of water to diminish.

When the branches, trees and rocks are removed, the river flow resumes normally once more.  This analogy is exactly how the body’s energy system works. When energy blockages in our body are removed, the ailments and symptoms are treated and our body starts to feel normal again.

Once the blockage has been removed, the body quickly heals itself because the body always pushes itself to perfect balance or homeostasis.

Besides treating the arthritis, the acupuncturist will also recommend and require the patient to modify his diet and lifestyle.  Following a healthy diet will help the patient properly control his arthritis. An overweight person can lose weight and lessen the weight to the joints with acupuncture.  Acupuncture is a very good procedure to help you lose weight and help you improve your general health as well.

Restoring Health with Acupuncture Miami

Acupuncture is considered a holistic treatment and a part of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) that has been practiced in Asia for at least 3000 years.  Being holistic nature, acupuncture treats conditions of the physical, emotional, mental as well as the spiritual side of the individual.  It treats the symptoms of the disease, the root of the disease and prevents disease recurrence.

The Chinese call the energy that brings life to the individual Qi or chi.  Chi is the underlying concept of TCM.  The latter devote its time and knowledge into treating the negative factors that influence chi flow and energy in the body.  Chi is the prime factor that determines one’s physical and emotional well being.  When the balance of this energy is disrupted, disease then sets in.  Chi flows through a network of pathways called meridians.  The meridians can be accessed through sites in the skin called acupuncture points or acupoints located all over the body.  When an imbalance occurs, this means that chi has stagnated in one of the meridians due to a blockage there.  Acupuncturists resort to acupuncture to remove the blockage and restore the energy balance of the body.  To restore the balance, needles are introduced at certain acupoints.  The body then begins to recover and heals itself with a little help from acupuncture.

Besides treating them, the acupuncturist also recommends his/her patients to actively involve themselves in their own healing by lifestyle recommendations designed to enhance their well-being.

Acupuncture very efficiently treats various kinds of illnesses and their symptoms.  Some conditions which acupuncture ably cures are sciatica and many types of back pains, morning sickness, post child delivery illness, hemorrhoids, constipation, neuralgia, headaches, tinnitus, asthma neck, and joint pain, rheumatism, arthritis, stress caused illnesses, depression and anxiety to mention just some.

The better part of the pre treatment procedure is querying the patient regarding his/her health problems and lifestyle.  Afterwards, the pulse is checked, tongue analyzed and sometimes urine samples are collected for the acupuncturist to smell and observe.  These procedures will help the acupuncturist ably formulate a diagnosis.  When diagnosis is made, selected acupoints are then treated with hair thin needles.  The application of the needles is relatively painless; the only sensation to be felt at that time is a slight sensation when the needles are placed into the skin.  This feeling merely lasts a few seconds and shows that the needles are rightly placed to influence chi flow.

The needles are allowed to stay in place for 20 minutes or more.  The treatment then becomes a pleasant experience as the effect of the treatment begins to take effect.  Many patients feel relaxed, calm or euphoric and some even feel revitalized.  After a few days after treatment, changes in the health of the person becomes noticeable as the energy flow starts to normalize gradually restoring the patient back to health.
