I know a drummer who has played many years for a few but well known rock bands. He told me that there was just a single thing that kept him from being trapped into alcohol and drug addiction.

For anyone who has been addicted to a substance, it is a very difficult process to break free of the addiction. Realizing that you have a dependency on one or more chemicals can be a disheartening awareness and the shock can be so powerful that some individuals are likely to go into denial about having the habit.
