Abundant Evidence Testify to Acupuncture’s Ability To Treat Psoriasis and Acne

For thousands of years, acupuncture has been practiced as a treatment for various health conditions in several countries of East Asia. In Europe, this therapy has been used for hundreds of years, while in the United States acupuncture has only been around fairly recently; about less than 50 years. As a treatment for psoriasis and acne, acupuncture has been found to be an effective treatment for these two skin conditions.

Acupuncture’s effectiveness in treating allergies and several skin conditions was initially studied in 1992. This was done in China and involved about 61 volunteers who had conditions that did not respond to conventional therapies. The conductors of the study gave controlled acupuncture treatments to some of the subjects in nine separate treatments instead of the conventional treatments they were using prior to the study.

The researchers stated that the treatment was a huge success. The group given acupuncture had a higher than 50% rate of success in which they experienced remissions in their conditions; some have even reported a complete cure of their condition. All in all, more than 50% of the subjects showed a substantial improvement in their quality of life and of their conditions.

According to acupuncturists, the body possesses special sections known as meridians. In traditional Chinese medicine or TCM, these meridians are believed to correct energy disbursement throughout the body and restore balance to it. Based on TCM theory by stimulating the correct meridians, the acupuncturist can help relieve nervous conditions, remove energy blockages and restore natural function to the body resulting in the treatment of psoriasis, acne and a number of skin allergies.

Additional studies have been done in western countries but many of them have not been able to provide definitive evidence of the effectiveness of acupuncture. These studies, on the other hand, have been balanced by a ton of cases that show improvement in skin conditions, particularly that of psoriasis and acne. A lot of these individuals suffering from psoriasis and acne who have been treated with acupuncture have reported a significant improvement in their skin symptoms after some sessions of this therapy.

Acupuncture has been shown to be a very effective treatment for a psoriasis-related condition known as psoriatic arthritis. Psoriatic arthritis is a form of arthritis in which the joints of the body degenerate resulting in severe pain for the sufferer. Acupuncturists target the affected meridians associated with this condition to successfully treat psoriatic arthritis.

As a standalone treatment, acupuncture may not be powerful enough to treat major health conditions. However, when combined with Chinese herbal medicine and other modalities of traditional Chinese or even with certain conventional medicine modalities, acupuncture’s success rate becomes impressive. A lot of doctors are now using acupuncture as an adjunct to Western modes of treatment. So, if you are suffering from psoriasis, acne and other skin disorders, you can talk to a qualified and licensed acupuncturist about receiving acupuncture combined with conventional treatment to help cure your skin disorder.
