Tonsillitis Lifestyles and Home Remedies

There are a number of natural remedies you can resort to protect your tonsils.

To lessen inflammation, you can use apple cider vinegar. Apple cider vinegar can be used as a natural disinfectant to minimize the discomfort and inflammation caused by tonsillitis. In one cup of warm water, add one teaspoonful of apple cider vinegar and mix. Gargle using the solution for around 30 seconds or more and then rinse your mouth. You can also drink lemon juice after you have gargled to disinfect your throat even more. The lemon juice also helps take away the vinegar taste in your mouth.

To ease your tonsillitis symptoms you can use Echinacea along with golden seal tablet. These two herbs, when taken together, can greatly relieve your tonsillitis. They also help quicken your recovery from colds, flu and from other viral infections like tonsillitis. Golden seal is available in spray form that helps in healing and soothing throat infections.

The soothing of discomfort and pain especially for sore throat can be done using lozenges made out of
liquorice root. This type of lozenge is often only sold in health food stores. Find relief from your sore throat by sucking this lozenge in your mouth for the whole day. The lozenge coats the throat to mitigate and soothe the pain and discomfort of sore throat caused by tonsillitis.  This type of lozenge should not be taken by those who have high blood sugar or diabetes.

To lessen inflammation and minimize coughing, create a mixture of 12.5 drops of almond oil, 1 drop of peppermint oil, 2 drops of eucalyptus oil and 3 drops sandalwood oil.  Rub this mixture on both your throat and chest. This mixture can help both reduce the inflammation of your tonsils and your cough. It is a potent treatment for relieving major tonsillitis symptoms.

Lifestyle Changes

Some of the lifestyle changes recommended to boost your immune system can include:

Frequent and thorough washing of you and your child’s hands
Relaxation
Cessation of alcohol intake and smoking
Stress management
Regular exercise
Healthy diet

A healthy diet implies eating foods rich in vitamins A, B, C, D and E, folic acid plus foods loaded with zinc, iron, magnesium and flavonoids. These all help in dealing effectively with your tonsillitis symptoms. You can also add large portions of fruits and vegetables in your diet list for everyday consumption.  Avoid high-sugar content foods, high fat products and refined carbohydrates.

Supplements like coldwater salmon oil and starflower supplements often have antioxidant properties that beef up your immune system and so taking them every day is highly recommended.

If you have been diagnosed with chronic tonsillitis and find these natural alternatives to be very helpful, you will still need medical help from your physician who can evaluate you for any underlying problems that may be causing your tonsillitis.

A lot of natural alternatives are available for you to help address your tonsillitis symptoms. Still, it is important that you talk to your doctor to make sure your condition does not worsen.
